In the 21st century we are fortunate to live in a time where convenience is the name of the game. Practically anything we want can be obtained overnight, if you have the money. Drive through meals, instant streaming movies and computers that fit in your pocket are tell tale signs of a people used to get what they want when they want it. We are so lucky to live such a comfortable easy life. This article will discuss one thing we can do to make sure we can maintain this lifestyle: using biodegradable products.

The threat to the environment, and our lifestyle as a whole, is no longer just table talk for hippies and scientist. There are some very real threats to our air and our space.

Rapid filling of our landfills is just one issue that needs to be addresses to make sure we do not over-pollute our air and our ground. The best way to ensure that our landfills fill slowly and stay as environmentally friendly as possible is to use biodegradable products as frequently as possible.

A product that is not biodegradable will cause only harm and grief to our environment. Man-made materials that fill our landfills quickly and result in horrible air pollution as they attempt to break down are causing some serious health problems, not to mention the need for more and more landfills, leaving less and less livable space. Biodegradable products will break down into their natural parts and merge with the soil, eliminating all that extra needed space, and preventing toxic gases like methane.

One easy step that you can take to help the environment by using biodegradable products is to think about it when you are shopping.

Instead of using plastic or Styrofoam plates, cups and bowls, use paper. When the checker asks you if you want paper or plastic, choose paper. Paper is environmentally friendly and will help, not hurt our current situation. If everyone would change these two simple things every time they go camping or have a barbeque, our landfill and pollution state would change dramatically.

What it really comes down to is priorities. Using biodegradable products is not hard, it is not time consuming, and it is not expensive. It may seem like a small inconvenience while you are learning to switch your preferences, but in the end, you will find that you don’t even notice the difference. It is nice to think there is something so simple out there that can make you feel like you are doing your small part for the environment.
